The Key affected populations health and legal rights Alliance (KESWA), was established in 2009, legally registered as a Non-profit Non- Governmental Organization in 2013, according to Kenyan laws. KESWA is an umbrella body of the sex workers led organizations with a MISSION - dedicated to amplifying the voices of sex workers by connecting sex workers led organizations in their diversities to progressively influence the intersectional needs of sex workers in Kenya.

KESWA is driven by a community vision of pushing for “a Kenyan society that recognizes sex work as work and promotes equal protection of human rights which are the foundational principals of our democratic society” We recognize diversity, thus includes female sex workers (FSWs), male sex workers (MSWs) and transgender sex workers (TSWs), sex workers who use and inject drugs, sex workers living positively, migrant sex workers, and refugees sex workers in Kenya.

Our membership is drawn from the devolved structures in Kenya, currently at over 75 sex workers led organizations from across the 47 counties. Over ninety per cent of our board, community advisory committee and staff are sex workers. We pride ourselves on achieving meaningful participation of sex workers at every level of decision-making on programming, functions, structures, and systems. KESWA has its head office in Nairobi, which houses its Secretariat staff members.
