KeNPUD is a national network for people who inject and use drugs, including women and other key populations who use and inject drugs. The network was established in year 2012 on the initiative of a core group of people who use drugs in Nairobi City County with a primary intention to stimulate the growth and support the development of drug user-led organizations in other parts of Kenya. The organization is headquartered in Nairobi County.
KeNPUD is a legitimate network which is recognized nationally and internationally by state and non-governmental stakeholders representing the community of People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) in Kenya. The network was among the pioneers of harm reduction programs in Kenya and has wealth of experience on the same. For more than 11 years, KeNPUD has expanded its reach and created a representative platform for empowering the community of PWUDs at the frontline to meaningfully influence policy and programming that impact people who use drugs. We have specifically championed for the promotion of access to health rights, human rights and economic empowerment through advocacy, building strategic partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders and litigation while strengthening drug user led organizations.
Our key priorities include creation of safe spaces and platforms to voice up and influence decisions & drug policies at the county & national level, integration of mental health services, building sustainability, self-sufficiency & resilience, legal & technical capacity and development. Thus, this way, KeNPUD continues galvanizing and facilitating a well-structured and coordinated movement raising its credibility and good performance.
