Ahmed Said
Ahmed Said is a dedicated advocate and person who uses drugs from Kenya. He is an active member of the Kenya Network of People Who Use Drugs (KeNPUD) and has been a leading voice for people who use drugs (PWUD) both in Kenya and across the African region. From 2019 to 2023, Ahmed served as the Board Secretary for the Africa Network of People Who Use Drugs (AfricaNPUD), where he played a pivotal role in advancing the rights and well- being of PWUD. Ahmed’s leadership extends to his role as an Executive Committee Member of the Key Population Consortium of Kenya, where he represents PWUD. He also serves as an alternate member on the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) in Kenya, advocating for key populations, including sex workers (SW), men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender individuals (TG), and people who inject drugs (PWID).
With over 12 years of experience in harm reduction and key population programming, Ahmed has made significant contributions to the field. He is the Founding Executive Director of the Kwale Network of People Who Use Drugs (KwaNPUD KENYA), based in the Southern Coast of Kenya. His advocacy and activism have been instrumental in ensuring that PWUD communities are included in decision-making processes that affect their lives.
In 2012, Ahmed made history as the first outreach worker to distribute needles and syringes (NS) in Kenya, paving the way for other organizations to provide harm reduction services to PWID communities. At the time, he was a volunteer with Teens Watch Centre, a mainstream organization supporting PWID.
In September 2023, Ahmed assumed the role of Regional Coordinator for AfricaNPUD, following his tenure as Board Secretary. His leadership and dedication continue to drive positive change for key populations across Africa.
